Who I Am
My name is Greg Bicknell — CMSgt, USAF (Ret.) — and I’m a 29-year Air Force veteran turned community journalist and media storyteller. After retiring from the military, I felt called to focus on the people and stories that hold our communities together. I’m a husband, father, Pap-Pap, and proud Kentucky native now living in Lake Alfred, Florida.
Why I Started Smoke-N-Focus Media
The honest answer is that I almost didn’t get to start it at all.
After 29 years of service, I thought the hard part was behind me. Then came the health battles, including brain surgery, that forced me to slow down and sit with questions I’d been too busy to ask: What actually matters? Whose stories are being lost while the news chases something louder?
What I found in that stillness was clarity. The world already has too much noise, outrage, and bad news. What it doesn’t have enough of is the stories of people doing Real Good in their communities — veterans finding their footing, neighbors showing up for each other, communities healing and rebuilding.
That’s the gap Smoke-N-Focus was built to fill — born not from ambition, but from gratitude for still being here to tell the stories.
My Approach
I practice people-first storytelling: slow, patient, and honest, with compassion and respect. I don’t chase headlines or make up drama. I show up, sit down, listen, and tell the story the way it deserves to be told.
My Journey
After almost three decades of service in the United States Air Force, I went back to school to earn my Master of Arts in New Media Journalism at Full Sail University. Since retiring, I’ve collaborated with nonprofits, developed documentary projects, and am building Smoke-N-Focus Media into a traveling storytelling and BBQ experience that brings communities together around Real Stories and Real Food.
A Personal Note
If something here inspires you, makes you think, or reminds you of someone in your own life, then this platform has done its job. Thank you for stopping by and supporting this mission.

About Smoke-N-Focus Media
Real People. Real Stories. Real Good.
Smoke-N-Focus Media is a veteran-owned multimedia storytelling platform based in Florida. Founded in 2025 by retired USAF Chief Master Sergeant Greg Bicknell, it exists to document the people, moments, and community connections that larger media outlets overlook.
We believe that journalism doesn’t always have to come from breaking news or viral headlines. It can also come from listening to people, showing up without an agenda, and sharing stories that remind us of who we are and what matters most in life.
Our Four Content Pillars
🇺🇸 Veterans & Policy
In-depth reporting on veteran healthcare, cannabis access, military transitions, and the policy gaps that affect those who served.
🤝 Community Heroes
Profiles of everyday people doing extraordinary good in their neighborhoods…quietly, consistently, and without recognition.
🔥 BBQ & Culture
Food as community. Stories told around smokers, tables, and tailgates, because real conversations happen when people share a meal…or at least that’s the intent.
🙏 Gratitude Journalism
Stories of healing, purpose, and connection. The kind of journalism that says “Thank You” and/or “I’m Sorry” out loud.
What Makes Us Different
Smoke-N-Focus Media is veteran-owned, community-first, and agenda-free. We don’t chase clicks. We don’t manufacture outrage. We don’t take pay-to-play stories. Every story we publish is chosen because it matters to Real People…not because it trends, but if it does, we’re okay with that.
We are a standards-based platform. Our coverage is about accuracy, fairness, respect for sources, and transparency about our process… including our use of AI tools in a limited support role.
